We also ensure that group travel is a relaxed experience for you.

Are you planning a stay at the Munich trade fair and still need a few insider tips? One of the things you should not miss if you want to experience Munich properly is a climb up the top of St. Peter’s Church. You will be rewarded with a breathtaking panoramic view. But a walk across the Viktualienmarkt is also worth a visit. The colourful market has some regional delicacies to offer. For pleasure seekers and those who love tradition, a detour to one of the centrally located beer gardens is definitely a must. In addition to these attractions, Eisbachwelle is one of Munich’s hotspots. On the bridge next to the Haus der Kunst you can watch the surfers putting on a great spectacle – even in winter.

At the end of the day at the trade fair, it is usually common to relax. This includes going to the restaurant. If you want to relax from the stress of the trade fair, there is something for everyone’s taste in the Bavarian metropolis.

We can recommend both traditional cuisine and modern gastronomy. The breweries in Munich in particular provide an authentic atmosphere. Number 1 is the Hofbräuhaus Munich, where you enjoy live music. And of course there is no shortage of delicious pretzels and beer.

Local specialties are on the menu in inns such as DER BIERMANN (only 800 metres from the exhibition centre) or the Truderinger Wirtshaus at Kirchtruderinger Straße 17. And if you want to be pampered in a particularly stylish way, you are guaranteed to get your money’s worth in the Bauer restaurant on Münchner Straße 6.

Can’t decide? Our experts will be happy to help you choose the right venue. Also read our article on the best restaurants in the trade fair city of Munich.

Every two years, IFAT attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world to Munich. In 2022, there were approximately 3,200 exhibitors from 61 countries and regions who provided an insight into current trends and innovations. With a wide range of talks, panels and presentations, the trade fair offers scope for lively discussions and professional interaction every time.

The first IFAT back in 1966 already attracted 1400 representatives of the industry. Even then, a total of 43 countries came together at this event, which demonstrated the overarching interest. In 2010 Entsorga, the international trade fair for waste management, water management and environmental technology, was combined with IFAT. Since then, the fair has also been held every two years instead of only every three.

To support the sustainability aspect, IFAT offers GoGreen tickets (for visitors) and GoGreen audits (for exhibitors). Through this, projects are supported that promote worldwide development aid. In addition to reducing greenhouse gases, the projects also aim to make a positive contribution to sustainable development in the respective regions – for example, clean drinking water for schools and households in Uganda or biogas from waste for small farmers in Vietnam. That is why IFAT relies on the myclimate carbon offset projects which meet the Gold Standard. The GoGreen ticket costs 6 euros more than the regular ticket – this amount is based on the average CO2 consumption of the trade fair visitors, taking into consideration the journey to and from the fair.
